Interesting. I didn't know they were coming out in the black frame scheme. They aren't as nice as the Rocos. I find the heavy weld lines in the roof the worst problem with them, and there's no excuse for that; it could have been done more delicate for no extra cost.

I suppose for the price you can't complain, and if I didn't have the Rocos I might consider them.

At 30Eu for a 1:87 coach they represent a bargain and as Roco's products suffers from marginal availability (I was forced to buy second-hand at a premium*) I would rather tone down the weld lines than complain.

Comments on other forums have been generally favourable but Piko has never really been accepted outside Germany.

Tim

*Over 75Eu for the driving trailer and 55Eu per coach for second-hand Roco coaches. The discounted price for the Piko coach is expected to be about 25-27Eu.

I saw these in a few shops and on Piko's stand last week, and with the price of the standard coaches seeming to typically be Eur23-25 and the driver Eur10 more, they're definitely fiercely competetive on the price. Man, the roof weld lines are heavy though, worse than Bachmann's BR mk1s. Still, I think that if the range expands and an Epoch IV rake with a Karlsruhe Steuerwagen appears, I'll be having some. Hell, I'm tempted enough at the present range! I can get a three coach rake for the price of a Roco Steuerwagen...

The Bachmann Mk1's were easy enough to modify therefore I assume that the Piko's will be as easy Very Happy
