Just a thought after reading David Frew's comments on another thread....what are (have been) the trickiest or most difficult DCC installations you've done?
For starters here arwe a few I've managed.....
Roco BBII 0-4-4-0
BraWa KoefII (Actuakky quite easy...there's plenty of room in the cab- just figuring out now if I can get a Loksound Micro and speaker in there!)
Trix BR98 (Pfalz)
Piko BR82 - the early version without a NEM socket
Roco E60
Roco BR58
Fleischmann BR55
Fleischmann BR78
Fleischmann VT98
Kato ESA515
Lima V36 - Also SB/Faulhaber conversion
Hobbytrain V65
Roco E91
Maybe now I should have a look at the Roco Glaskasten -I fancy trying out yhe Mayerhofer LED lanterns as well.
None of the above had NEM sockets...some may now be available with them! |

That's a good selection. The Lima V36 was quite interesting as the ballast weight takes up all the free space. I guess remotoring it created some more space?
I've done over 100 dcc installs now, the majority without NEM sockets.
These include some interesting and challenging ones:
PMT VT35 with sound
VT137 with sound
Roco TEE with enhanced sound chamber to produce really good full sound (too good compared with some of the other ready to run sound offerings!)
DJH BR59 with sound
DJH Br98
DJH Bavarian BB mallet
Several Fulgurex, M+F and Weinert models
and lots of others.
Probably most rewarding was remotoring and decoder fitting to two rivarossi BR96 locos which turned a "dog" into a really smooth runner.
I still have two Trix Glaskastens sitting here waiting for decoders. |

Andrew,
I would really like to know how you did the Fleischmann Br55. Did you use Fleischmanns isolated backplates?

Hi Erkut; no I didn't.... just had a go at the standard PCB with a slitting disk to isolate one of the motor brushes from the chassis. If you're not confident foing this, Fleischmann can provide a replacement. |

David, tes, remotoring eith a Faulhaber gave just enough room alongside the motor to install a Lenz LE030... I actually filed the PCB down by approx 0.2 mm to get it to fit! subsequently it has run flawlessly! |

It is a shame, that rather than supplying a list, a few photos showing the solutions may have been infinitely more useful to the forum
After Warley, I will be posting some images of David's conversions which show that Fleischmann pancakes can be converted without the replacement of components and a tricky conversion of a small Lima diesel.

Thanks David,
I know Hp-pfeiffer's site. Even just looking at the pictures scares me.
I am afraid the Br55 conversion is from a new model of Fleischmann, mine has the pancake motor.
Eventually I will sit down one day and try to convert them...till that day.

A slight mistake has crept in, even the modern BR55 from Fleischmann has a pancake motor AFAIR, only the BR56 has the can. The link provided by David is the 1:160 model not the 1:87, pleaee look carefully at the motor and couplings. |

Yes Tim, you are right!
I'll do a bit more searching. The pancake motors are generally straightforward provided you fit the newer face plate, but again well worth remotoring to Faulhaber at the same time and that will certainly create loads of space for a decoder. |

Kevin:
Digikey is one of the best online sources for electronics parts on this side of the pond. They have just about everything.
Tim, I think he's worried about ridiculous postage charges for crossing the Atlantic, which I can confirm is a real concern.

Jurgen,
If you think that the Transatlantic charges are ridiculous, you should see what German sellers think is normal. |

Thanks Jurgen.Your right,if I buy anything,I don't like the shipping charges to be the same price as a item(s).
