TT gauge
Sorry for the divvy question most probably. Im still looking at what gauge to do a layout , N is the most sensible at the moment as i dont have much space, but people have suggested looking at TT also , but i know relatively little about it in its present form. Do any other members use this gauge or know much about. Sorry once again  Nathan.

TT has some lovely models, mainly from Tillig, of East and West German prototypes. The worst part about it is the couplers. It is possible to convert to Kadee style knuckle couplers, but it takes a bit of work. It i worth considering, but look alo at your modelling skill and willingness to fiddle to get the results you want.

Personally i don't like the idea of fiddling about then breaking something that is expensive. Ta for the help :)

Fiddling can be fun, but there are inherent risks to it. The main thing I don't like about TT is the appearance of the couplers, however that is very much a personal thing. I don't like N-scale rapido couplers either, but this is all because I like remote uncoupling. That said I will probably be found one day hand uncoupling wagons in O-scale with three-link couplers!

I can suggest TT without bad feeling. I did TT-modeling for quite a long time as it was a popular gauge and second place after H0 in the GDR. The real good thing about TT is that the models are quite good detailed, much better than most N-gauge models and that the driving dynamics are also much better than in N. The modern models own flywheels and 5-pole-motors and a NEM651 digital plug. Tillig introduced new couplings last year which are now much smaller and work as close-couplers and can be fit to the any model having the standard TT coupling shaft. The only problem i see ist that there still most models are made for the DR epoch 3 and 4 and only few models exists for the late DB. In the last few years new manufacturers entered the TT-scene that offer highly detailed models at good prices, like Kühn or Piko. The rolling stock is not much cheaper than in H0 gauge. The Tillig-tracks are quite like the H0 Tillig-Elite tracks, having the same profile. Hope that helped you on your decision.
