Trabi 2.0 (Herpa designed it)
Has this happened before ? A model manufacturer suggests a design which leads to a prototype. Herpa produces a 1:10 model for the next generation Trabi - and now it's going to be manufactured 1:1 in Saxony, close to the original factory ..... http://www.derwesten.de/nachrichten/2008/1/24/news-18605890/detail.html Just think of it, a Trabi with diesel engine, airbags, electric windows, air conditioning, stereo, talking satnav, .... er .... no thanks.

Who is going to make it (my German is almost non-existent)? Perhaps they're trying to cash in on the wave of nostalgia....

The company is called IndiKar and is based in Wilkau-Haßlau, close to Zwickau. Like the Mini and the VW Beetle, I guess they want to cash in on the cult image of the original but it'll never be the same.

I'm not sure if it's clear in the article or not, but Herpa owns the Trabant trademark and the car is being produced for Herpa. Herpa is going into the 1:1 scale car business. Jurgen

Well, I do not know if this situation has happened before but it makes sense to me here. Herpa has decades of plastics moulding experience to share with Indikar  . Perhaps Herpa will sub-contract for the body parts? :8) Even then, there has to be another example! Peace, Jim (thinking...thinking...)

There's a bit in English on the Herpa website... http://www.herpa.de/herpa_cms/Default.aspx?lang=en-GB&rbid=406 (corrected link / AR)
