Swiss Steam in 1960.
I know that this is a Forum about German railways, but I thought that there might be one or two that would also be interested in the railways across the Swiss border. If there are, I have just put some pictures of steam in Switzerland in 1960 on my Fotopic site. Here is the link if you would like to see them : http://ronfisher2.fotopic.net/c1099919.html As usual, they are in the 'Stop Press!' collection, but, after a couple of weeks or so, I shall transfer them to the 'Swizerland in the 1960s' collection which is here : http://ronfisher.fotopic.net/c1272048.html I am particularly interessed in the Liliputbahn in Luzern. Is it still there? There is a Liliputbahn near Luzern, but I don't think that it is the same one, unless it has moved to a different location. Can our man in der Schweiz tell us anything?

Ron, the only Liliputbahn in the county of Luzern is this one in Rothenburg, which is very impressive: http://www.liliputbahn-chaernsmatt.ch/

Ron, the only Liliputbahn in the county of Luzern is this one in Rothenburg, which is very impressive: http://www.liliputbahn-chaernsmatt.ch/ Hello Alan, Thanks for the link - that's the one that I found on the Internet, but it's not the line I visited in 1966, or that E.A.S.Cotton went to in 1960. I'll have to dig out my 1966 pictures, but they won't tell me where I was at the time! It must have been centrally situated in Luzern because I did not go out as far as Rothenburg. At least, I don't think I did! I went to the Verkehrshaus on the same occasion, as did E.A.S.Cotton, so I think that it must have been somewhere near there. I did hear that it had closed down, so the one now at Rothenburg might be a reincarnation, but in a new location. According to their website, it opened in 1980. Since starting to type this, I have answered my own question! It's all on the Rothenburg website, but I had not read it all yesterday. "Is this the one that used to be by the Verkehrshaus?" is a question they get asked all the time. The answer is no, but one of the locos from that line, an unrebuilt Royal Scot, now runs on their line. Others went to a new line at Stein-am-Rhein. Like the original line in Luzern, this is duel gauge; 7¼" and the unusual 14½". It is to this gauge that the Swiss A3/5 is built and that engine is now at Stein-am-Rhein. So the next time I'm in Luzern.......(and Stein-am-Rhein!) Ron.

Of course the Verkehrshaus also has a garden railway. However, it doesn't match your photo and I've only ever seen this american style loco running there. Try this site for a list of such railways in Switzerland http://www.gartenbahnen.ch/
