Stalen D project
A quick post indicating my model building venture. As many will know the train I am attempting to put together is the Holland-Skandinavien-Express which ran from the Hook of Holland thro' Germany and into Copenhagen. I travelled this train several times in the late 50's and early 60's as a child visiting relatives in Hamburg and I find the consist fascinates me with it's variety of coach types. During this time the train comprised of wagons from Holland, Germany, Denmark and Sweden and would not have looked like your regular express travelling thro Germany. Anyway enough of my ranting and onto my little project. The luggage van in the train was a Dutch 'Stalen D' which was used on long distance express trains. I bought a model in ebay and although it looked ok there where a few faults such as buffers too high, wagon length short etc.. that I was not happy with. Available models (kleinspoor and Philotain) were too costly so I thought I would 'have a go'. Materials are 1mm and 0.5mm styrene for walls and balsa wood for roof. Bogies are reused from the ebay model. The following photos show the luggage van at about 50% completion. Ebay purchase - Buffers too high, etc.. - modelling construction drawing using a reverse perspective technique enabled me to obtain reasonably accurate dimensions. Kitchen table workbench Stalen D - 50% complete and 'looking good Houston' - so far anyway. I do not have a great deal of spare time so progress is slow. I will post more photos when completed - Andrew
