Roco DCC set question
Hi guys, Roco's new DR epoch 4 DCC set (with the yellow BR110 like diesel) poses a question for me; when were those diesels seen in that paint scheme? It is more of a shunting scheme is it not?

Alan Rees- 03-30-2008

Roger, The BR111 was indeed a shunting locomotive. The train heating had been removed and the gearbox was adapted for slow speed running. The set that I have seen comes with the V100 in orange, although yellow was apparently also a valid livery. Here are all the livery variations (excluding those nowadays with private liveries): http://root.stannigel.de/asmmhome/en_railway/dr_v100/dr_v100.html

Thanks Alan. It is nice to see TWO DR sets this year from Roco! I am looking to make the switch to DCC, and that set really caught my eye! When were the BR111s introduced? I can't find much reference to them in my usual sources.

It seems they were built in the early 80s. Interesting stuff.

Hey Guys, just a comment on Alans Link with the DR V100 colour schemes: The first series of the V100 (BR110) was delivered in red with two white stripes in 1966-67. All following engines had only one white stripe. The green and blue color schemes had only the prototypes and pre-series engines to show-off on fairs for the manufacturer. (LEW Hennigsdorf near Berlin). The standard color scheme for the BR111 (no train-heating, gearbox adopted for 65 kph) was orange like with the V60/BR106. As the colors were soon bleached by the sunlight, a lot of those engines seemed to be yellow. The first were built in 1981 and the last one 1983. 63 units were built, the DR got 37 of them, the others were delivered to large industry corporations in the GDR and Czechoslovakia.
