This June I hope to visit Lindau for a couple of days looking a trains, boats and Zepplins. This may not be the best place to ask but has anyone else visited Lindau and can recommend a place to stay? The agency wants me to stay in the Hotel Vis a Vis on Bahnhoflpatz but I cannot find their 'phone number etc. Thanks Tim

Hi Tim, if you have a view from your hotel over the lake, you maybe can recognize the wonderful Friedrichshafen harbour station at the Wuerttemberg side of the Lake Bodensee: http://www.hafenbahnhof.de/modellbahn/impressionen.html Enjoy your trip Dirk

Hi Tim, This site may be of use: http://web20.icserver3.de/index.php?sid=1027 In 1997 I stayed in a pension opposite the railway station, unfortunately it is that long ago I cant remember its name. Didn't book, just turned up and found somewhere! It is worth catching the ferry from Friedrichshafen over to see Murnau Isle. Nice gardens and a quite neat church (SWMBO is into gardening, I would prefer astro turf!). The only problem I had on the ferry was when I wanted milk for my tea. The waitress could not speak any English and my poor attempt at saying milk in German was rather unsuccessful. However my sign language (I leave it to you imagination!) as to milking finally got the point across much to the amusement of SWMBO and my friend who was travelling with us. The zeppelin museum in Friedrichshafen is well worth going to. Although not to everyone’s taste, they used to have a Marklin box car as a souvenir. I admit it never runs on the layout, but does look cool in the display case! John

Tim, you might like to try this one: http://www.bahn.de/p/view/international/englisch/travelagent/engl_hrs.shtml I used them for my Germany trip last year, and thought they were good. Given the nature of this forum I'm more than a little surprised that no one came up with it before!

Hi, Thanks for all the help. We are looking for somewhere to go as I have to loose a week in June before we travel down to our cottage in the Vendee. Not sure where we will go, Lindau looks interesting but so does the Massif Central and Perigueux. Tim
