New member and KBayStsB questions
Hello everybody
I have been modelling British railways for a while, but now my German missis has finally persuaded me to go HO and Bavarian. I am starting to collect rolling stock for a pre-First World War Laenderbahn, to be located somewhere in Northern Bavaria.
I have been given a Trix DXII locomotive from a boxed set. It is painted in a reddish-brown livery and belongs either to Baden or Wurttemberg railways* (I can't remember which and I don't have it in front of me right now). I want to repaint it in K.Bay. green.
Can anyone recommend a suitable paint (manufacturer and name or number) for this job? (Is there anyone who actually sells Bavarian loco green?) I prefer acrylics but I am prepared to use other types.
Also, is there a good source of decals or etchings for the various number and data plates that the loco carried in K.Bay. service?
Many thanks
Tede
*It is the PfalzStsB, the railway administration was semi-autonomous from the KBayStsB. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhineland-Palatinate
Hi Tede,
Welcome to the forum.
This site maybe of interest, but whether it is beneficial to your bank balance remains to be seen!

I think it's safe to say that no manufacturer's website is beneficial to our bank accounts; it's always a question of how much damage they do...

Thanks chaps. This one looks like it's going to damage mine all right.
I see that they do two different green paints: chromium oxide green and Bayerische Laenderbahn green. I'll probably buy a tin of each, but if anyone has used these paints and recommends one rather than the other, I'd be grateful to hear from them.
Bavaria don't seem to do decals. Are there any German decal manufacturers?

Ral colorsHello
I would suggest you find out the corresponding RAL color tone and than go to this site :
http://www.kh-modellbahnbau.de/html/templates_2.php4?zid=70&phpx=#
these colors are matching exactly the RAL color tone.
Your job is now to find the ral number, the source for the color you´ve got now. there you will find every color tone for modelling ( especially railroad model colors)
The colors are water based acryl colors. This color is very good for airbrushing, and has big advantages for cleaning afterwards and for your health

GWR Post '28 Loco Green is readily available from Precision Paints (try Howes of Oxford)
This is the nearest paint to the darker green used by the KBayStsB Post '10 however if anyone can actually prove this to be incorrect, I will more than happy to reconsider my comment.
See the thread dealing with historical colours.

Thanks everybody. I think that gives me plenty to go on.
