Narrow Gauge Car Couplings
For Epoch II 600 mm gauge rolling stock, is it "usual" to use Buffer and Chain couplings? Also were the chains 3 links with a tensioner as part of the central link? Just trying to verify what I know to date. Cheers from the Heart of the Continent Will

Any particular line as it could range from a buffer down to industrial pin and chain. Kev

Any particular line as it could range from a buffer down to industrial pin and chain. Kev Hello Kevin, I am of two minds as to location. The first is Finland, and secondly a "generic" German location. I also keep in the back of my mind the thought that I "might" later update to the 1950 era. Would a Norwegian "chopper" type coupler be feasible in the 1940s era and/or the 1950 era? Cheers from the Heart of North America Will

Will Hello Will, German locations for narrow gauge railways: peat-, gravel pit, sandpit-, clay pit, slate pit- companies. The most used coupling systems are: buffer and chain, coupling stick and coupling iron. For more information about German narrow gauge railways search for "Feldbahn" at the internet. For example: Feldbahn

Looking quickly at the superb Schmalspur Zwischen Ostsee u Erzgebirge gives the following options: Scharfenberg centre buffer Centre buffer with a fixed bar through the middle Ditto with a triangular link to tighten the coupling (think Instanter) Centre buffer with side chains on a pivoted arm Ditto but with screw couplings Ditto with an instanter style shortening link (Kreis jerichow 1) Centre buffer with a hook/screw link above it (Bad Doberan 900mm) Janney buckeye (Eisfeld - Metre gauge) Centre buffer each with a pin behind with a loose link dropped on (Muskau 600 mm Industrial type coupling) It looks as if the mecklenburg lines used a centre buffer (photos are pretty muddy) and they were a 600mm mainline system. Kev
