Media Watch
The la-*test*-('")- September 08- issue of the Hornby magazine features a rather nice layout of BW set in the DDR.
Well worth buying a copy.

Well worth buying a copy.
It certainly is - although judging by some of the moans it shows how narrow minded some people can be though !
What people seem to forget is that we can all usually learn something from modellers of different subject.

Get two railway modellers in a room and they will moan. However as the average demographic of railway modellers is 53+, it naturally follows that we are just grumpy old men.
My favorite magazine, Model Trains International, always features models and model layouts from around the world and of different types and that is one of its joys IMHO. I've seen the odd European layout featured in the US magazine Model Railroader a on very rare occasions and always enjoyed it. I enjoy Hornby Magazine and applaud them for featureing a "foriegn layout". Quite frankly I think magazines such as BRM, Model Railroader, Hornby etc., would benefit benefit themselves by being more inclusive but I think the majority of their readers would appreciate, and learn from a bit more "foriegn content" .........say at least 2-3 times per year.

Getting started in European Model Railways- A very half-assed attempt to explain European railways on four pages of text including photos, plus a review of the Piko DCC system and a primer on DCC! It fails to inspire and is best avoided.
Rather an interesting article on sound without DCC control

I quite like the Hornby magazine. It has more readable articles than most of their competitors.
Their was a bit of narrow minded reaction to the inclusion of a non- UK layout but that was inevitable really and wasn't as bad as expected.
Just bought MRJ 185 this morning. Absolutely worth it. Gives me ideas for putting canals on a layout!
