Kombimodell HO scale intermodals
I've just obtained a couple of T4.1 "taschenwagen" in Swiss HUPAC livery as recently released by Kombimodell - this appears to be a very new company as I was unfamiliar with it or its products until a couple of weeks ago....
Initial impressions are very favourable - construction is broadly similar to the Roco Sdkmss model, although the T4.1 is a little longer. The basic construction being a metal casting with finer details in plastic. one notable detail is the very fine steps at each end, which are etched nickel silver. There is included a bag full of smaller details for the user to attach - looks like hours of fun to me as there are a lot of very small parts.
The models are quite expensive - about €50,00 without a load and €64,00 with. (truck trailer or container) but obviously high quality asnd I think, good value. I have no concerns whatsoever about the models themselves, they are exquisite, but I have a minor concern about the packaging, which is a little flimsy. My models arrived fine, but the plastic insert to the card box is not especially well designed. Another point to be aware of is that the wagon is helsd within the insert by two additional pieces of plastic which is stapled into place - don't be tempted to remove just one of them and slide the wagon out, as you'll end up bending the steps or the handrail, or both, or worse!
The models I got were two of four limited editions at €64,00 each, one carrying a 40' Dutch "Van Dieren" container and the other a 3 axle trailer marked "40 Jahre HUPAC" There are another two limited editions, these being one carrying a Swiss "Schoeni" trailer, and another carrying a Norfolk Line trailer - this last one only available in Germany.
I spoke with Michael Rudinger of Marno (England) and he informed me that he had the Schoeni version on order but could not obtain the "Norfolk Line" model - he further told nme that his information was that only 90 had been produced, and most dealers had only been issued with one each. However at the moment they are still available if you move quickly.
Kombimodell also sell unloaded wagons both singly and in 3packs
