Martin, tell all. Why should we hate anything railway unless you're cutting up the engines we love in some latter-day Barry scrapyard? And, shying away rapidly from that sad subject, I prefer the one general forum; it seems to help if we use Search first and then continue from an earlier topic if it's suitable, rather than start anew with just one or two words different in the subject. Martin, You are a brave man! The next few weekends will be used to get the base ready for the new garden shed ( metal and maintenence free for 10 years :D ), which is needed to get all the non railway stuff out of the garage  , to make room for the long awaited modelling to begin :8) . David

So how big will your new railway room be David? John

David Ingram-Seal- 08-02-2008

In old money 17 feet 6inches X 8 feet 6 inches, which is slightly smaller than the old workshop. But the good thing is, it will allow me to carry on where I had left the model before moving. It also means I can tidy up, some of the things that I was unhappy with including rewiring. David

new train set
Hi I am building at present the svt 137 901. The 4 car SVT prototype from 1938. They build 137 901 - 904. Those trains consisted only with first class wagons. There is no equivalent model on the market so I set up the train from 2 old piko svt 137 ( 3 cars type). They are cheap and easy for such rebuild. I know the Piko SVT are not right for this type of train, but I think better than nothing. The changes: Refitted with a new motor in the motorwagon new led´s red / yellow in both train heads with switching lights (red/yellow in connection with the direction of the train). New signs ( DR with eagle shield, SVT137 901a - d, first class signs) and from Liliput svt spare parts the front eagles. All shields and eagles are selfmade ( except the plastic eagle from liliput). Removed the old window folio and inserted new windows. Inserted a black carton inlet for covering the old interior ( non existend). Inserted a digital decoder from ESU. New precision wheelset inserted in the motorwagon, the middlewagon and in both front cars. next project: from the rest of the 3 part svt (the one with the removed middle wagon) I am going to build the svt 137 with two front cars ( without motorisation) and it will be connected via symoba short coupling to a piko svt 137 with the tree wagon type. So I get a interconnection with a 3 to 2 connected SVT 137 train , as there were running at those DRG / DRB Days Greetings Gustav

Gustav, Sounds to be a very interesting project, please keep us posted how you progress. David

I am adding some details to Grafenwalde  The local chicken population has just increased by a dozen or so chooks that are to be found sauntering about whilst some nice rabbit hutches have been built amid much swearing (etched kits) After acquiring Preiser's 'refugees' I wondered what to do with these otherwise excellent figures but the above photo has prompted their use around the station area.

Change in weather so back to the attic. I've spent the day building a control panel, including analogue control of signals and accessories using the Fleischmann control panel pieces which make an attractive layout display panel. Also been Silfloring (new verb!) the embankment and planting some flowers and ferns.

I've just begun building my railway: The larger part is to be an N-scale Inglenook layout, 90x20cm, and the two smaller ones will be modules for my kids to decorate and then attach to the left end of my module for extended running. (Inspired by T-trak.) Cheers Olle

Hi Alan and others - I just found this site and made my first post. I kind of feel strange not posting on WRF, but well, when Ep 3a and 3b is your interest, this seems a great site. Phil

Alan Rees- 08-11-2008

Hi Phil, good to see you here :D

Tom Lynch- 08-11-2008

Summer weather has meant catching up on household projects, but I have squeezed in some time to do some painting of the backdrop for my basement layout.

Greg Mashiah- 08-12-2008

Welcome Phil - I think your "change in the weather" has been more dramatic than many others - what was that on the news about hail showers in the Illawarra? I gather from the Weatherzone forums that it may have been snowing on the LGB layout at All Aboard Braemar Model Railways - I think that would be a first - photos in Australia of a garden railway under snow! I am busy with an On30 logging layout, the reason I don't post much as it has nothing to do with german railways. At the moment I am upgrading some area's of the first parts on Dreimühlental for exhibitions in November. Jacq

Making woodpiles from matchsticks- the one feature that tends to be ignored by those outside Germany and yet they are more common than any other feature in the landscape. Every house, large building has at least one woodpile and they are found in fields, orchards, beside railway stations etc. But they have to be handmade as no plastic, factory-made woodpile will ever look correct, the trouble is that one woodpile takes about 30mins but what else should you be doing? So, step away from the computer and start modelling!!!!!
