Happy 3 Kings day - steam spectacleEurovapor and the Eisenbahnfreunde Zollernbahn provided a spectacle to celebrate the '3 Kings' today. 01 519 and 50 3673 stormed out of Rottweil on the parallel lines towards Neufra and Deisslingen.

Just over an hour later, the engines swapped lines and repeated the parallel run.

01 519 hauled the Europvapor train from Haltingen via Basel, Schaffhausen and Singen.
And here's a short movie (2.6Mb):

And as if that wasn't enough, today 01 519 joined 58 311 (arriving from Karlsruhe) and ran on parallel lines between Hausach and Triberg over the Schwarzwaldbahn.

Mild sunny weather made it a superb day.
Is anyone interested in more video footage ?
Ahhh Hausach and Triberg over the Schwarzwaldbahn.
I have a friend who has modelled this in HO and have spent many hours running trains over it. But never like this. It would appear that this may need to be reproduced when next we operate his layout.

John, There is nothing prototypically accurate about the above scenes, simply steam enthusiasts enjoying themselves. Nevertheless, repeating the scene on a model layout would be very entertaining.
Both trains took it in turns to overtake repeatedly so that the fans in each train could get a good look at each others locomotives working hard up the gradient. This meant that the leading train would slow down somewhat to allow the other to pass. Each time this happened, momentum was lost which couldn't be regained. By the time they were approaching Triberg, the speed had dropped to below 40Km/h.
Is anyone interested in more video footage ?
Alan,
I would definitely be interested in more video footage.
Regards,
Neil
I too would be very interested in seeing more footage :-)
