Anyone seen this loco yet? I was in Dresden in August and was told that it was 'imminent' - due within the next week. I have had one on order from Arcadia since September but they don't expect it until later this month - if then. Has it actually been delivered to German model shops yet?

Yes it's relatively freely available in Germany... I had mine posted from Modellbahnshop Lippe in Detmold (my first time with this retailer, but it went trouble free). I used this shop because I got about €20 off the list price. It also shows up regularly in EBay shops at around €339,00. It's a very impressive looking model especially when compared with the ancient Rivarossi model - runs acceptably but min's a little bit noisy...hoipefully its running qualities will improve once run in

Andrew, Just a note of thanks. Read your experience with Modellbahn Lippe. Tried it myself, excellent prices and two day delivery to U.K. Thanks Mike

Still waiting...
Arcadia still haven't had any 98s, and MGS have, I understand, only had a couple. There appears to be a shortage in German shops too, as many are showing a wait status of some variety. Does anyone know if there were problems with early production run(s) perhaps?

Mine isn#t the quietest... especially not for a Guetzold... but I didn't think it was anything serious enough to cause any real concern... maybe they've just sold more than they expected to?

Just had advice from Arcadia - 6 expected next week as they have had (and paid) their invoice. There may be 1 or 2 available after pre-orders - quoted £240 if anyone is interested.

£240 is a really good price - especially the way the Euro is appreciating in value - I doubt if you'll get one cheaper in Germany.

Some great pictures of the loco are here http://dreileiter-magazin.de/Neuheiten/07-12-1/98-flash/index.html John

Well I finally got it a couple of weeks ago - SUPERB. Just one query - Did the prototype get the 3rd headlamp at any time - all the photos I have seen just show 2 and that is how it is preserved at Chemnitz. <Some great pictures of the loco are here> I note they have not added the steam pipes between the bogies (which are supplied).
