Wales win the Grand Slam against France 29-12

John Woodall- 03-16-2008

I thought that you were English Tim? Surely an Englishman would not be too happy that Wales did the grand slam? My Welsh friends on the other hand are ecstatic, but I am unsure if the rate winning the grand slam above beating England! Should be a good game of Rugby when the All Blacks roll into Cardiff later in the Year. John

Tim Hale- 03-16-2008

I look forward to the All Blacks being humiliated in Cardiff yet again. Tim BTW I am half Welsh but only the bottom half.

Roger Marsh- 03-16-2008

Cymru am byth. Good to see Brains has made a difference

(Sir) Shane Williams should be knighted ! What a breakthrough after 60 minutes of very tough defence. Thanks also to Martyn Williams for adding the cream on the Guinness ( I've just had too many of those )

John Woodall- 03-17-2008

And the coach is from?

Tim Hale- 03-17-2008

And the coach is from? I think that they hire the coach from National Express.

John Woodall- 03-17-2008

I believe that he is the ex Irish coach. Warren something or other. Definately not out of the Canterbury school of Rugby excellence

Alan Rees- 03-17-2008

Wales legend Gareth Edwards says coach Warren Gatland transformed Wales from World Cup flops to Grand Slam heroes. A lot of credit is certainly due to both Warren Gatland and Shaun Edwards. Nevertheless the trophy was won by the entire Welsh team who played 5 matches and won them all. In these days of globalisation there is nothing which can be regarded as 100% Welsh, English, NZ or any other nationality. How many pure New Zealanders (i.e. Maoris) play for the All Blacks ? Where are Mr Gatlands origins, I wonder ? Who taught the All Blacks their skills in the first place ? You may have foreign mercenaries in your army, but your army fights unitedly for a cause. In the case the cause is Welsh glory. Feed me till I want no more ! :D

John Woodall- 03-18-2008

Wales played well no doubts about that. But they also played well when two of the three wise (I use the term loosly) men of NZ rugby also first became the welsh coach. Mind you Henry and Hansen sound more welsh to me than Gatland. The true measure of Gatlands worth will be over the next four years. They will not win the 6 nations every year between now and the next world cup, but if they can remain competitive and avoid slip ups like against Fiji in the last world cup, the dream final would be the AB's vs Wales. John

Roger Marsh- 03-18-2008

First the ABs need to avoid the choke factor; I am still stunned at their exit in the last tournament. Almost as bad as that of the Wallabies.

John Woodall- 03-19-2008

Roger, The turning point in my view was when the AB's lost Nick Evans. We have two world class first fives, losing both of them in a 20 minute period did not help. The only saving grace was that the Wallabies crashed out earlier than us. John

I was happy that Scotland managed to beat England. Our recent performance has been dire, only just managing to beat Italy.

Alan Rees- 03-19-2008

Neil, unfortunately the Scots didn't actually win against Italy. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_union/7294056.stm However, beating England more than compensates for that. (Sir) Shane Williams should be knighted ! Well at least he has been named player of the tournanment ! :8) http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_union/welsh/7305002.stm

Neil S Wood- 03-19-2008

I should really have finished my sentence Alan but I got distracted. I meant that it is good if we actually do manage to beat Italy.. They can no longer be disregarded (by us).
