Tim and I have been changing things. You get the last word..... Which front page do you prefer ? A - The portal design : http://germanrail.forumer.com B - The forum board : http://germanrail.8.forumer.com/index.php please vote

Alan--I don't which is which; but I prefer the old style. It is beyond me why computer people continually change the interface to utilities. I don't care if one improves something or eliminates a bug. But don't change the way I interact with something. New and improved is usually bad and worse.

Boyce, then you should vote for B which is based on the 'traditional' front page you are used to. If you bookmark http://germanrail.8.forumer.com/index.php then you can still jump straight there, avoiding the new portal (assuming we keep it).

I voted for the new portal, because I think it looks sharp and seems easy enough to use, but to be honest, I use Opera as my browser, and it always remembers the last pages I had open and takes me straight there, so I seldom see the home page for the sites I frequent. Jurgen

Alan--hopefully you will keep the old entry. One good thing about Windows XP is that you can choose the "classic" style which is the old interface. I've always said that the mark of a good operating system is that one can make it look like any other operating system.

Boyce, don't worry, the 'old entry' won't disappear.

I sympathise with those who don't like change. For example, there is currently a storm of protest in Switzerland about painting some of the Post buses white ( ). However there sometimes good reasons for a change.... The portal is mainly designed for newcomers. For that reason, it needed to be simple, cool, and obvious how we want them to register. If we keep the portal then removing the 'extra paint' from the 'forum board' might make sense. Should we abandon the portal, then the changes to the 'forum board' should be kept, primarily for the benefit of newcomers. Regulars can simply bypass the new portal by using the address http://germanrail.8.forumer.com/index.php

I like changes, but the new front page is too big. Too may items etc.
