Digital Expansion
I currently run my digital locos with a couple of Roco Lokmäuser 2 - inexpensive, easy to use and very convenient. The only drawbacks are: an inability to read decoder information and to programme values over 99. What options do I have to overcome these shortfalls without a) spending a fortune or b) binning the Lokmäuser and starting again?

I am using the Lenz LZV100 with 2 LH90 controlers. 1DEC telephone and 2-3 Lokmaus 2 without any problems. These are used only to run trains. For switching I use a separate system. Jacq

Jacq VMT. I don't need digital switching, just DCC loco management. I really like the Roco mices as controllers. Does your Lenz device do the reading and programming? I tried to find out what Roco had in their programme that might do the above, but haven't found any system information on the Internet, just lists of products and brief descriptions.

Paul, with the Lenz LH90 unit it is possible to program all settings for decoders and controlers, on a special program track and on the layout while running more engines it is possible to select one engine to change it's settings. I have two LZV100, one has been converted to a booster by means of 4 small dipswitches. I also use LA152 plug in units from Lenz for walk around. This plug in unit has 2 DIN sockets and a plug suitable for the lokmouse 2. In all cases walkaround is functioning. The DEC phone works wireless till 250 -300 m. I am very satisfied with it. Jacq

Jacq, what type/make of decoders you are using for analogue locos, and do you use any of the Lenz special functions (asymmetrical DCC for breaking in front of signals, break generators etc...) I'm N-gauger too  interested in Lenz set 90.

I think the cheapest option is probably to get a Multimaus handset and a SPROG, using the SPROG as a stand alone programmer rather than using the DCC system as a programmer. Rather than me explaining what a SPROG is, it's explained clearly on the website: http://www.sprog-dcc.co.uk/index.html. Otherwise you're looking at getting a whole new system effectively, as neither the Lokmaus or the command station support CV reading. As for which system to go for- well, that's a very difficult question! Rich

Nicholas, the decoders I mostly use are from Lenz and from Kuehn. In the smaller ( H0) loco's I have installed the mini versions Lenz gold mini and the smallest Kuehn. During the last exhibition it all functioned very wel, no noticable warming up and good control. I have not used the influenced braking or acceleration but have set the CV's for trottle controle for each loco to what I liked best. No automatic control is in use, the driver is in charge and can override a signal. Shorts are not possible due to pointmotors switching of tracksections of point. The LH90 set is very easy in use, but this is my choice. I use via a number of the LA152 plug- in units 2 LH90 controllers, 2 lokmouse 2 and a couple of operators bring their LH100 controllers. I am testing a Dect telephone system from Lenz for wireless control at the moment. I can recommend the LH90 set., but remember I use it for driving only!! For switching point and signals I use a separate system. Jacq

Thaks Jacq for quick reply! I'm thinking of just basic "automation" on my future modular layout using DCC. My choice would be digital "driving" and manual switching of points, with possible digitalization in the future. I have no need for elaborated control of the layout, cause it's designed as a branch line in Ep2, with small amount of signals and points, but I would like to provide some basic automation for the purposes of the exhibition. Anyway, thanks again for your reply, and happy modelling :8)
