The TEE coloured diesels were not painted for TEE service. When o/b was being considered for the new DB scheme the TEE colours were going to be retained for higher speed passenger service, so in that vein the DB had a couple diesels painted experimentally in those colours. The TEE colours were rejected in favour of the blue. After that they were just used in regular service. Later a couple of diesels being used by the research department were painted back into the TEE colours, but they just did that because they felt like it. The TEE Bavaria started off with the RAm diesel sets. These only lasted a year or two before a set was destroyed in a disasterous derailment. Lacking sufficient RAm's to continue in this service, the train was switched to conventional coaches. Regular red or o/b 218's or 210's were used on the German portion of the trip. At Lindau, one of a small set of green Re4/4's was used to take the train to Switzerland. The Re4/4's were dedicated to the line, because they had two different pantographs; one was standard Swiss, the other was a DB/ÖBB pan for use on the Austrian catenary running into Lindau. Jurgen
