Brawa New Items 2008
Model Centrum now have a really good scan of the new items brochure up. http://www.modellcentrum.de/html/brawa.html Surprisingly there are quite a number of “new” items K.P.E.V S9/DRG Class 14 K.W.St.E. Tn/DRG Class 94.1 :D DRG E77 DBAG BR426 Some K.P.E.V compartment coaches The DB Polish coaches The rest are just repaints/reissues of existing models. For the DRG modeller there is a huge amount to think about/choose from. John

Well, having had a look at it in a bit more detail, there are some really good things announced for me as a DRG modeller. Another 3rd class Cid 21 is most welcome, but why they could not also announced a 2nd/3rd class one I am unsure about. The logic as to why they have re-released the CPost van escapes me. Hopefully they will get the printing correct this time! The set of 3 G10's is most welcome. I am very tempted buy the OOt set as well. Hopefully they will bring out a set of these every year for the next 4-5 years. A train of 10 or 12 of them would look really nice! Again, I am surprised that they have not announced a Om 21 with brakeman’s cab. To me it seemed a logical progression from the Om 21. That being said the Om 21 announced has been on order since mid December. The Einheits-Zellanwagen is something so different, I am tempted to buy one. Of course my town has no real need for it because the occupants are all such good citizens! I am of mixed minds about the release of the ex K.W.St.E. depressed centre flat car for the DRG. It is really nice, but supposedly does not run very well. If you are a Prussian fan then the commuter coaches are probably very welcome, but to far north for me. The express coaches are also welcome, this year I will buy some! The class 94.1 is an issue for me. I need to understand whether they were used solely as banking locomotives in Epoch II or whether they were also used to pull freight trains. Either way, I am very tempted. The down side is that I am getting far to many banking locomotives, and I really don’t need them! John

The Prussian coaches are very nice. Is the red BR06 an authentic livery? :?:

John Woodall- 01-20-2008

Hi Neil, I think so although the shading my be incorrect, but that could just be the picture. Isn't there a red streamlined locomotive at the Nuremburg railway museum? Cheers John

Neil Whiteley Bolton- 01-21-2008

Neil, I believe that red is authentic, but have written to Brawa to ask - this looks like being a very expensive year for me. :D Regards, Neil

There is a red streamlined loco in Nurnberg, but it is not the BR06. Just another ploy to remove money from hapless modellers?

Neil Whiteley Bolton- 01-21-2008

Tim, I know that the red lco in Nurnberg is not a BR 06, but that does not mean that one of the two BR 06s was never painted red. Regards. Neil

John Woodall- 01-21-2008

Hi Tim, It would be interesting to know how many fully streamlined locomotives were painted red, and how long they were red for. It seems possible that it may have been painted red, but finding a colour photo to prove this could be rather difficult! But your right, it may just be a ploy to remove money. The question is how many class 06's you need on your layout. After all there were only 2 of them made in 1939, and I somehow think that having red locomotives wasn't such a good idea during WWII. John

Neil Whiteley Bolton- 01-21-2008

John, I don't think that I would characterise this as a ploy: firstly I don't have any sense that Brawa is being underhand; secondly the black BR 06 is sold out - re-releasing the model in a different livery is a good way of making the model available to those modellers who missed it first time round, AND to those who wish to have more than one variant. Regards. Neil

Alan Rees- 01-21-2008

In the text of their brochure, Brawa does claim that there is photographic evidence that the BR06 were indeed painted in a dark red livery.

Neil Whiteley Bolton- 01-21-2008

Alan, Now that I look closely at the on-line 'flyer' I see that you are correct, although the text is quite difficult to read. It talks about an illustration rather than a photograph - interesting in itself as pictures and illustrations of these lovely looking locomotives are very thin on the ground. I am pleased that you spotted this - thanks. Regards, Neil

Neil Whiteley Bolton- 01-21-2008

Tim, I'm sorry but I think that you are being too cynical. They are not being dishonest or misleading people. There have been to many financial eye-openers in the hobby for anyone not to recognise that the market is in decline - manufacturers need to maximise the return on any investment if they are to remain competitive. Anyway I think that Brawa happens to have one of the most interesting product ranges - I'm more than happy to support them. Regards. Neil

Alan Rees- 01-21-2008

In the text of their brochure, Brawa does claim that there is photographic evidence that the BR06 were indeed painted in a dark red livery. And no-one around to prove otherwise, meanwhile Brawa shifts a few more 06's. Tim (I always believe what the manufacturer tells me) A manufacturer's reputation is at stake. Have Brawa made such a false claim before ?

Tim Hale- 01-21-2008

A manufacturer's reputation is at stake. That's debatable.

Hi Neil, I think so although the shading my be incorrect, but that could just be the picture. Isn't there a red streamlined locomotive at the Nuremburg railway museum? Cheers John Hi John The one in Nurnberg is the BR05. It could be that there was red one but I don't think I'll be buying a second one although I do love it. The first one was dear enough. Cheers Neil
