Bad ads
I'm wondering if we should organise a boycott of any business which advertises in those "Lookery" ads being foist upon us lately. They make my browser jump around everytime they load a new ad; it's very annoying...

Jurgen,
I entirely agree, and I am sure you are not the only one who is annoyed. This style of advertsising certainly doesn't encourage me to do any business. I have already complained several times about these ads to Forumer. Forumer stated back in 2005 that there would be no banner advertising, which was one of the main reasons I chose them. In reply to my complaint, they say that the Google ads no longer provide adequate revenue to cover their costs which forces them to change their policy. Although we are a small fish in a large pond (Forumer host over 250'000 forums) Forumer have decided to make some exceptions to their policy. I have now submitted a request to have the Google ads back. As a Forumer moderator (nicknamed 'Attitude') has recently registered on our forum, I have reason to hope that we will be granted an exception.

The problem isn't constant; maybe some of the ads have bad scripts or something. I hope there can be some acceptable solution.

I suppose that something has to pay for the bandwidth, there is nothing for nothing thesedays.
Personally I find the animated ads the worse & distracting to say the least. My timing is stunning though every time I log on here I am either the 999,999th or 1,000,000th visitor & have won a prize, or at least have a new message !
Apart from the fact that adverts are lost on me, as others have said - if I don't like an advert I don't buy the product.
More worrying though is the activity I notice with this host trying to gain access to my PC.

And what about that wretched alarm which means muting our computers...

When it comes to these ads I've got something strange going on. With my desktop computer (Win Vista/Firefox 2.0.0.12) I don't get the ads :D but with my laptop (Win XP/Firefox 2.0.0.12) I do! :( Not sure why this is but I'm not really complaining, I'll be accessing 'Railways of Germany' from the desktop in future.

Shock! Horror! Dismay! Does this mean that we can't access RoG at work? LOL
Re Martin's comment, Vista has more capabilities for suppressing unwanted content, such as pop-ups and banner ads etc.
At least the banner that displays now doesn't make that REALLY annoying "Bing!" sound.

Looks like I spke too soon.... :?

Forumer have granted the request and I am pleased to see that Google Ads have replaced those annoying ones.

Thanks Alan - very welcome news.

I'm happy to see that as well.

Now that Google has resorted to more banner advertising, I recommend the Adblock plus addon for Firefox.........

unless, of course, you are interested in a Russian dating service.

I've got Ad Block Plus but have never really got it to do anything. What did you do ? Thanks
Alan Rees- 08-15-2008
I installed it as an add-on to Firefox. During the installation it asks to choose which filter subscriptions, so I chose all the US and German advertisers, who are now blocked.

BTW,
You must choose Adblock Plus not just Adblock.
