Archeology: Berlin Südgelände Gentleman,
had a silent morning at Tempelhof Südgelände.
Südgelände was part of Berlin Tempelhof shunting Station and was raised somewhere back in the 1870ties. After WW2 it was useless and left alone from the 1950ties on. Mother Nature came back during the last sixty years and turned this place into a mythical garden. Nowadays this area is used as a living museum with the intention to have art, industrial artefacts and nature in a perfect harmony. Südgelände is a quiet and lovely place. Autumn leaves add colour.
There is much rail related left here and it is worth a visit. I took some photos here and hope you enjoy this as much as I do.
Picture 1, 2, 3.: A Class 50 engine – I suppose.
Picture 4, 5.: Maintenance of Way
Picture 6, 7, 8.: The turntable. Museum authorities claim that this turntable is “one of the oldest” surviving turntables in Germany. I doubt - but it is operational and nice.
