A Saxon O
Another coal car left the workbench. This one is a coaler of Royal Saxon Railroads. Time-frame is around 1912. During the last 30ty years Piko offered thousands of them. Some words on colour: Piko decided to have this Saxon in grey colour (they released a much rarer?? red brown too). Until 1905 the Royal Saxon Railroads kept its goods cars in the typical “Saxon” grey livery. In the later years with more standardized freight cars “red brown” became more and more the dominant colour on Saxon rail lines. Keeping its grey colour in mind I presume this freight car was made in the pre 1905 years. Therefore I did some changes in the axle suspension. The steel plate suspension (picture 4) was replaced by the much earlier skeleton framing. Everything else was business as usual: I installed NEM boxes, had some brass/plasticard steps here and there, RP 25 spoke wheels… What will be next? Peer

Peer, That's a lovely piece of well-obseved modelling. Can you tell us where you got the new axleguard/w-iron/bearing units? Steph

Steph, thank you for these kind words. The mentioned "skeleton" axleguard/w-iron/bearing units are RAI MO leftover parts. RAI MO had a good eye on details but this company is long gone. Peer
