Ouch! I have 18 3yg's... Jurgen

Just started detailing mine. The smoking signs, One question please, were some 3Bygs all non smoking. I have found some photo's of the other types, which seem to have differing themes on the position of these? I understand the difference between Epoche III and IV, but some paintshops must have been uncertain of what went where. David

There has been a lot written on here now about the 3 axle convert stock, but how does the set of wagons that Marklin (cat no 00770) released this year stack up? From a modelling perspective since you can purchase the cars individually there is the potential to get multiple versions of the cars with different running numbers, specifically the B3yg+B3yg units. David It's hardly definitive, but I have a Roco set with one coach with smoking at both ends. The rest of the 2nds are half and half. First class sections are both smoking and non-smoking (not sure how that works...). The smoking/non-smoking signs were lower than the windows in the early 60's and between the doors and end windows (and smaller) later on. One thing to bear in mind with 3yg's is that DB went to little or no effort to update the lettering on them, resulting in many still being in early 60's lettering when they were retired in the late 70's; a full range from pure Era III to sort of semi-UIC was possible at the same time, so almost anything goes on the markings, depending on the time you are representing. John I don't have the Märklin coaches, but I think they were first made later than the Roco's and were well regarded when they were introduced. If I didn't have so many of the Roco's I might be tempted by them. I've acquired my Roco fleet (I recounted and there are only 16, actually) over about 6 years and have no duplicate numbers so far, so the Rocos are out there too, and you might save some money. The only sets I've passed on are the early 3rd class sets. Jurgen

Hi Jurgen, Composite coaches were all marked up the same, as regards the smoking signage. I have done my examples as seen in the photo's that I have found. Thank you, David
